South Western Qld – Winter 2018 – Day 5 – Western Downs to Toowoomba

5-1

The water tank in Yuleba looks like salvage from a satellite

5-2

In a short space of time, I found not one, not two but three dates in town.

5-4

Judds Lagoon outside Yuleba. Not many grey nomads here, it was too pretty and had facilities.

5-4b

The local caretaker.

5-4c

Cockatiels were nesting in a tree near the lagoon.

5-4d

The puppet show was worth the price of admission.

5-4e

Local produce put a smile on our faces.

5-4e2

Lemon meringue pie made with these bush lemons on its way soon.

5-5

Wattle common on roadsides

5-8

The local hotel at Dulacca scored at the paint sale.

5-8a

ANZAC memorials were of quality and very well kept at towns. This one is at Dulacca. The large numbers of those killed in Wordd War I would have decimated populations in these communities.

5-7

Wilga  – a common tree in outback Queensland.

5-9

Bottle trees are seen in paddocks throughout the district and very prevalent in every town along the Warrego Highway west from Dalby.

5-10

The bark of a young bottle tree. Trunks become dark and fissured when mature.

5-11

Brigalow lining the Warrego Highway on the Western Downs.

5-11b

Roadworks were prevalent causing multiple delays.

5-11c

Black kites (in a group of about 80) near Chinchilla

5-11e

A cuckoo near Chinchilla

5-11f

Wedge-tailed eagle near the town of Brigalow.

5-11g

We followed a rain band for most of the day and caught up with it near Dalby.

5-11h

Warrego Highway east of Dalby

5-12

Toowoomba Town Hall in Ruthven Street.
