This day trip out from Streaky Bay was one of our favourites from our 2017 road trip.

The explorer Edward John Eyre’s waterhole just south of Streaky Bay. The well was used by the Nauo, Wiranju and Kukata people. Eyre used the well on his expeditions of 1839 and 1840 finding that the water level replenished after water was bailed out. Will we try it? Well, water we waiting for!

On the way to Murphy Haystacks on Benbarber Road, we stopped to admire the spring wildflowers like this native hibiscus.

Daisies

Bluebells

Murphy Haystacks – granitic laccoliths that formed underground and were exposed by erosion. Geology rocks, but geography is where it’s at.

They were mistaken for haystacks (from a distance) early in the colonization of the district.

Trails lead to different outcrops.

Baird Bay on the road to Point Labatt

Point Labatt Conservation Park

Point Labatt has a sea lion colony, spectacular views and wildlife – it has our seal of approval.

Australian sea lions rest after the arduous feeding in the ocean,

There are protected pools where seals can play and cool down away from the Great white sharks that are their major predator in these waters…..

…and a safe place to rear their young.

“It’s my rock!”

Its nice to lounge around by yourself….

…or with friends.

Sea lions emerge from the water and look for the best sleeping spot.

Time for a nap.

Ok, lets tern around and all face west! There were also a couple of Crested terns at Point Labatt. Notice the conscientious objector on the left – there’s always one.

Camelot Toilet – This toilet is no dump and our “Number 1” toilet in Australia.

Loo with a view.

Speeds Point on Westall Way Loop Drive

If you get too close to the Sleepy lizard/Shingleback, they are not so sleepy.
