

Merredin Kalgoorlie Bitter Water Tank was built in 1893 and supplied water to steam trains for over 60 years.

Merredin silo art. These silos are part of the largest grain storage bins in the southern hemisphere at 610 meters long and 59 meters high. After a bumper crop, if a silo is overflowing, has it ex-seeded its limits?

Merredin solar farm is the largest solar farm in Western Australia (360,000 panels) with an expected output of 281GWh of electricity annually, generating enough energy to power approximately 42,000 Western Australian homes. Thought for the day: “Generating all our electricity from solar power…is not going to happen overnight.”

It isn’t peak wildflower season here yet but a few are flowering like this hakea.

The Narembeen Hawk has a wingspan of 2.5m with 1000 individually cut feathers. Someone suggested there were only 999 but that is a matter of a pinion. It is the creation of local sculptor Jordan Sprigg who has many outstanding works in the surrounding districts.

The West Kulin Whopper on the road to Corrigin well after sunset – this sculpture is away from the bulk of the other horse sculptures and the biggest, set off the road in a paddock. The creators said that this horse sculpture is far superior to all the others but were told to get off their high horse.
