South Australia 2019 – Day 11 – Wallaroo and Moonta

A quieter day today  – a bit of R&R, laundry and looking around the local area.

Wallaroo silos and jetty and tons of seaweed. So thick you could get stuck in it.  Kelp! Kelp!

Hughes Chimney on the foreshore was built in 1861 from 300,000 bricks and stands 36.5 metres high.

We went looking for North Beach and went down a road and suddenly without turning space were on the beach. Locals drive their cars down here, park on the sand and enjoy the sunshine in winter and the cooler breezes in summer. The sand was quite firm. Three other 2WD cars were down there.

The Moonta Mines Museum is housed in the former Moonta Mines Model School, built in 1878

Hughes Engine House completed in 1865 was designed to pump groundwater from underground tunnels.
