FNQ 2016 Day 29 – Homeward bound

Today was the last day of our journey – mixed feelings – great to be home and with family all closer together but sad at the prospect of finishing the great experience of life on the open road.

The first hour of the drive south from Rockhampton was through fog – quite heavy at times.

29b

We detoured into Gladstone to visit the local cemetery for family history interest and pay our respects to ancestors. The harbour was active with the coal terminal busy filling a ship with another waiting in the harbour.

29d

Coal at the bulk terminal.

29c

The view from Auckland Point near the town centre towards the Rundle Range National Park across the harbour and coal terminal.

29f

The Boyne Island aluminium smelter.

29e

Bauxite waiting for processing into aluminium.

White throated honeyeaters and a satin flycatcher at Granite Creek between Miriam Vale and Gin Gin. This creek starts in Bulburin National Park and flows into Baffle Creek.

This is the last entry for this blog. We hope you have enjoyed our travels and that the images may inspire you to take to the open road and discover Australia’s wonders and beauty. The roads less travelled are very rewarding.

All images were taken by all three of us on the following gear: Canon 6D, Canon 7D and Canon G3X cameras. Lenses used were 24-105mm f4L,  70-200mm f2.8L, 17-40mm f4L, 60mm f2.8 macro.
