The drive south from Cairns was in reasonably heavy rainfall. We did visit the Babinda Bakery – recommended by a work colleague from Cairns – welcome on a wet day after walking in rainforest in heavy rain. Babinda Boulders is another granite gorge below Bellenden Kerr, Queensland’s second highest mountain.

The walk at Josephine’s Falls starts near the trail to Mount Bartle Frere, Queensland’s highest mountain at 1622 metres. Water runs off the mountain very quickly and the creek was quickly swelling. We met the ranger who was about to close sections of the lookouts near the creek for the risk of flash flooding in an already swollen creek.

Edmund Kennedy National Park is near Cardwell and is a saltwater crocodile habitat. A vehicle track passes through a pretty swamp with sedges, mangrove, fern and paperbarks.

What lurks beneath….

We stopped in Cardwell for a snack. Still no Bismarck the crocodile but I did speak to a local who saw the croc from this jetty a few nights ago. He told me a friend saw four crocs in one night while fishing out from here in a boat.

Tyto Wetlands is a Hinchinbrook Council initiative on the edge of Ingham. There was diverse birdlife.

Late arrival in Townsville – quick trip out to Townsville Town Common on sunset – magpie geese in numbers and this lonely darter by a swampy lagoon lit by the sunset.
I received tragic news today that a work colleague passed away. My thoughts are with her family and my grieving work mates. She will be greatly missed.
